As September rolls around, a new cohort of families have decided to homeschool their children and are looking for a program for homeschooling. There are many factors to consider in choosing a program including learning style, cost and quality.

Factors to consider when choosing a program for homeschooling

Families looking for a program for homeschooling may want to consider the following questions.

  1. Is the program secular? Many homeschooling programs are religious.
  2. Is the program scientifically accurate? Some programs, especially religious programs may state that climate change is not real or that evolution is up for debate. Its also important to note that since many programs are self-published, they may include inaccuracies. For instance, even in some well-reputed programs used in school, we’ve found inaccuracies in math programs.
  3. Is the program aligned with state standards? While a comprehensive program does not need to be aligned with state education standards, if families are concerned at keeping their children at grade level this may be important.
  4. Does your child enjoy the program? There are so many great homeschooling curriculum available and no program is the perfect fit for every child. Your child is much more likely to learn fast if they enjoy the way the material…
